Today you will have the entire period to complete your Reading Plus assignments for the week! Just a reminder, if you do not finish everything in class today, please complete your assignments over the weekend so that you do not lose points when I enter your grades in AERIES on Tuesday 2/20/18!
Several of you wanted to discuss "Gun Violence at School" after the tragic events that occurred in Florida on Valentines Day. Here are some points for our discussion:
It’s the 8th week of the new year and there have been 8 shootings in the United States. Half of those occurred at middle or high schools. Parents, students and educators are joined by the rest of the country asking “why?”
“Are we coming to expect these mass shootings to be routine? And then after every one we say ‘enough is enough’ and then it continues to happen?”- Congressman Bill Nelson
Our thoughts are with the students and teachers at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Unfortunately, we also know that this tragedy could happen anywhere. The program "Get Schooled" recommends a few resources to share with students as your community deals with the aftermath of the worst school shooting in our nation’s history. This ‘meditation video’and ’15 positive affirmations’ article may offer some ways to deal with stress here.
